The New Balance FuelCell Propel v2 is a comfortable everyday running shoe with a soft ride, yet springy ride.
For the price - the Propel V2 is a pretty good shoe. It is a great lightweight trainer or a good marathon shoe. The shoe is softer than some other FuelCell shoes and more comfortable on longer efforts, with a really good improvement on the Version 1 shoe. There is a good combination of cushioning and energy return but its not enought to make this an everyday high mileage training shoe.
The heel to toe transition is fast and smooth and pretty comfortable right out the box - the shoes were much better after 2 short runs. The upper isnt ideal, as its stiff and restrictive and took some adjsutment to get right on the foot.
A fast and responsive midsole with a decent amount of energy return that propels you forward in a fun way. The ride is enjoyable and light thanks to a good FuelCell foam and a 6mm heel drop. Getting on my toes was easy and the ground contact was good.
There is enough cushioning to make this a daily trainer for the lighter runner, and its good for speedwork - although on the 16 miles long run i did in them my feet were a touch sore at the end.
The mesh is breathable and there are minimumal overlays, but there is no stretch in the material so they fit tight and stiff - there was a period of breaking in needed from the toe box, which improved slightly over time but its still not great. Massive NB logo is more for decoration ad the heel counter is good without being overly restrictive.
Great rubber coverage on the outsole is durable enough for everyday use and worked pretty well in dry and wet conditions and up to now with over 60 miles logged there is very little wear.
Overall a solid pair of shoes, nothing fancy and not my favourate lightweight training shoes, but for the price they are hard to criticise. They perform well, will last a long time and are versatile.
