Such potential of an energised ride is let down a little by the weight. It's a great shoe and if perhaps, you are a heavier runner, it will be no deal breaker, but for most there are probably better shoes at slightly less money.
There has been a lot of work gone into the shoe. The enginnered knit upper and wrapped TPU based midsole show that. But it does feel a little heavy. On the move the weight issue is not too bad, but you can still feel you are carrying a little bit more shoe. The cushioning soaks up the impact well and has a certain amount of 'spring'.
The TPU based material offers more 'energy return' - i.e. its a little more resposnive and returns to it's original shape quicker. That means less compression over time and better durability. That is definately the case, the shoe is very hard wearing. But its a little bit heavier overall as a shoe, so the responsiveness is somewhat dulled by the weight.
A great, knitted upper design and faux suede heel collar lining make the shoe feel very luxurious. It' a great fit, perhaps not for the broader foot as it's pretty close, but it's very well made.
The chevron design aims to direct the foot forward and create a line down which to guide the foot along. It's tricky to tell if its actually doing that, but it is very durable.
There is no doubt this is a very good shoe. The cushioning works well and is durable, and the upper fit it great, but are they worth paying the extra for when compared to the brand's other models?
Well the Ghost is cheaper and feels lighter and a little softer, so by comparission that is a very serious competitor that sits so close to home.
DNA AMP cushioning system provides Brooks' highest amount of energy return, using a polyurethane midsole encased in a TPU skin that resists the expansion of the foam outwards, allowing the energy to be directed back upwards. It kinda works but loses some of that potential 'energy return' due to the extra weight it carriers.

Midfoot Transition Zone uses an arrow-point rubber outsole design to help direct pressure towards the forefoot, providing flexibility while encouraging quick transitions from heel to toe.
Flat Knit upper provides a plush fit designed to flex and hold the foot strategically as it moves.
Internal bootie keeps the foot secure without adding any pressure points.
Faux-suede heel tab is plush to protect the Achilles tendon
